Fight for Human Rights
Research Report
Rights and Responsibilities of People in a Society
The first
line of inquiry, talks about responsibility, perspective, roles, freedom, peace
and justice. Wherever we live, whoever we are, these are our rights. No one can
take them away from us.
We looked
for books on human rights and borrowed a few from the library. We flipped
through a large variety and picked out a few. One of the books ‘WE ARE ALL BORN
FREE’ had the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’, in really interesting
pictures. Soon, we are going to make posters on them.
We’re
trying to express our perspective through dance, drama, music, art,
story-writing, poetry and various language integrations.
We are
using Edmodo and our Blog to put up any information we collect or work that we
do.
We are
thinking about tradition, diversity and identity.
The Way Rights and Responsibilities Impact the Lives of
People
The second line of Inquiry, talks about Causation and how our rights impact our lives.
We learnt about how people survive when they don't get there basic needs. The main target today is women, children, disabled, lower-castes, old aged, poor and unemployed. This is because of their caste, colour, gender, skin, job, family, etc. Every day in newspapers, radios, TVs, Internet and public places, we see discrimination and violation and denial of rights.
After looking at various videos, pictures and articles, it has come to our realization that so many people’s rights are denied. We feel that every human has the right to live with freedom of speech and movement and should be treated with equality, respect and dignity.
We have improved our research skills and used all means, from the Internet, books and newspaper to people, organizations and discussions.

We
created timelines on organizations and major events in the history of Human Rights.
This led to us finding out about several mandates, declarations, closures,
conferences and protocols.
To
increase awareness, we are doing surveys and interviews, for math integration
through graphs and various data. We are making a collage of all news articles
and pictures and mobiles. We will be campaigning and are thinking of getting
people to sign petitions.
We’ve
talked to the Sahara NGO, who told us that they could give us a guest lecture. We
are still looking out for a good place to visit for a Field Trip. We’ve thought
of various movies on our topic.
We’re
talking to Mr.Rajan and will ask him how we may contribute in the OUTREACH
program.
We are
working on topics like authority, religion and conflict.
Taking Initiatives to provide Equal Rights
This is
our 3rd Line of Inquiry, which talks about taking initiatives and
actions locally to make an impact globally. To make a small difference in our
youth society, we have decided to take an action. When they grow up, they’ll join
hands and make a difference in the society with us; to save our species, our
people and break the terror, the vast gap between us…
On
the Student – Led Conference Day, where
teachers, students and parents will all be present. We grabbed this opportunity
to put up food stalls, for some fundraising.
We have decided
roles and made plans deciding the prices, quantities, quality, venue and other
estimations.
We’ve
tried to put in tasty, exciting snacks which are just perfect for the summer!
From Pani Puri and Juice to Cookies, Cakes and Chocolates, plus some candles
too.
We’ll be
donating our profit to an NGO, so that we help them carry their work a long way.
We will ensure that it is put into good use.
Another
action that we’ll be taking is doing a short mime in the slum areas and the
streets to show people the importance of human rights.
We have
found out about various initiatives taken by larger NGOs Locally, Nationally
and Globally to provide everyone with equal rights. A few of them are :
·
Local – Sahara NGO, Ashray Akruti,
Samrita Trust
·
National – Youth for Human Right,
Teach for India, Give India, Smile Foundation
·
International – UNICEF, Amnesty
International, Human Rights Watch, International Federation for Human rights
We are
making Charts on rights, roles and citizenship.
